Fire-Rated Caulk

Q: We had a mock survey and one of the findings we were written on was LS 02.01.10. EP #14 which states you must use an approved fire-rated material. The finding was we had different color fire rated caulk. My question is this: Does the color matter if I can show it is an approved material?

A: The mock surveyor (as any surveyor would) has the right to ask you to prove the different colored caulks were installed in accordance with their respective UL Listings. Just to write you up on using different colored fire-rated caulks is not right. Now, if you cannot present the documentation that the surveyor needs to see that it is properly installed in accordance with its UL listing, then a finding is appropriate.

So, to answer your question directly: No, the color of the caulk does not matter as long as you can show it was installed in accordance with its respective UL listing.
